Throughout the year, Nelson Mandela Bay stages a host of events catering for all.

The festive season

In early December each year the Port Elizabeth beach front comes alive with spectacular fireworks displays heralding the opening of the Summer Festive Season. A jam-packed holiday program is guaranteed entertain.

Splash Festival

The annual Splash Festival takes place over the Easter Weekend and offers visitors 4 days of excitement including watersport competitions & activities, entertainment arenas for young and old ­ & a diverse fleamarket.

"Watersport capital" of South Africa

The Nelson Mandela Bay offers unequalled beach & deep sea conditions for all water sport enthusiasts.

Board sailing

The Nelson Mandela Bay and surrounds provides the best protected boardsailing conditions in the world. The area is excellent for bay and river sailing, as well as top quality wave-riding and jumping.

Diving

The protected waters of Algoa Bay provide scuba-divers with a diverse range of dive sites. A number of recognized diving schools offer a full range of scuba instruction as well as charters and hiring of dive equipment.

Fishing

Surf, rock and deep-sea angling opportunities are endless along the beautiful Nelson Mandela Bay coastline. The "dolosse" scattered around the bay area and the harbour breakwater are fabulous angling-sites for novices and children.

Sailing

The Bay is world renowned in sailing circles. The Redhouse and Swartkops Yacht Clubs offer safe, protected river sailing. PE Beach Yacht Club is at Hobie Beach and the Algoa Bay Yacht Club for the deep keel enthusiasts is in the harbour.

Wildlife

The indigenous Valley Bushveld and surrounding game reserves provides endless wildlife experiences, sights & sounds of Africa in a Malaria-free environment.

African arts & crafts

A number of centers in & around the area are dedicated to promoting local arts & crafts.

The Art in the Park fleamarket takes the historic St Georges Park by storm every first Sunday of the month and there visitors will find the most exquisite trinkets, art, and examples of the Eastern Cape entrepreneurial spirit like no where else.

Cultural, Historic & Other Places of Interest.

The Nelson Mandela Bay area is steeped in history and its colonial British settler, great trek Afrikaner boer, Indian, coloured, Dutch & German influences abound. Museums and attractions offer visitors a glimpse of the past and the new Rainbow Nation.

Shebeen Route

The Shebeen Route is a fun, action filled adventure through the "Township's" tradional watering holes.

Shebeens (informal drinking halls) come alive over weekends when hard work is replaced by beer and laughter. Shebeens are found on every corner and add to the atmosphere of Township life.
